What Is the Right Fridge Temperature?
37–40°F for the fridge, 0°F for the freezer — and what it means when yours will not hold it.
Set the fridge between 37°F and 40°F and the freezer at 0°F. Warmer than that and food spoils faster; colder and you waste energy and risk freezing produce in the back of the fridge.
If temps drift even with clean coils and a door that seals tight, the cause is usually airflow, a defrost fault, a failing fan or a temperature control problem — all diagnosable in one visit.
Keep vents inside the fridge unblocked, leave a little space around food, and check door seals with a dollar-bill test: if the bill slides out easily, the seal is leaking cold air.
If the problem continues, go straight to its service page: Refrigerator Repair — or call (615) 583-1836.
